Last night I had a go at long exposures of night sky. It is difficult! This is my best attempt, but still find it too noisy. I tried some 30s Iso 1600 but they were too dark, I exposed longer but the stars start to get blurry.

ISO 4000Focal Length 17mm (17mm in 35mm)Aperture f/8Exposure Time 30s (30/1)

Better than my first attempt at these kind of shots.

If you want to maximize brightness and avoid noise, you can try a combination of opening up your aperture and/or stacking shorter shots. Why F/8?

If you want to work it up with a single shot, trade aperture for ISO.

If you want to work it up with multiple shots, you can take short exposures to minimize star movement and then stack them.

You can use a program like Deep Sky Stacker to stack shorter shots- this doesn't make the stars brighter, but it reduces the noise, smooths the speckle between stars, and then you can try various ways to brighten the stars and other galactic stuff without making the noise brighter.

DSS doesn't work with my 14mm lens output though, since i don't have any of the fancy programs to correct the super wide angle distortion first.
Yeah, if you recognize the avatar, new user name.
