Homepage slideshow - best image size

I want images for my homepage slideshow to fill the screen no matter what the computer - i.e. large pc screen or laptop etc. Currently I have a mix of image sizes some of which look very small on smaller devices.
Obviously I should have landscape orientation but what is the ideal size for this?
Also are there any other settings I should know about in the slideshow?
