This shot was taken with the Canon 100-400mm L IS.
I really like this lens for birds, but would love a longer lens, but the cost is a bit too much for the 500mm.

I hear ya , Dennis. I've got AN eye on that Canon 300mm f/2.8 and 400mm f/2.8 for myself. Don't know if I'd need that 500mm too often where I'm at. Most of the birds here...are friendly and will pose for you. I've only been using the 200mm f/2.8 "L" for most of my shots as it is. Would like some more reach...but don't need a whole lot more. That 500mm would be fun to have. Know of any banks we could rob?

We can always use more reach no matter what lens we get, we all want more and more. But the one thing is that I should point out is that the 100-400mm I have I wished that the TC would work with it. But for some reason I would have to use the manual focus.
I got around this, and found that the cheap Tamron converter works well with this lens, and it does auto focus as well.
I must also say that the images are really good with this converter on the lens. The next time I post an image that I used the converter, I will mention it.
