I moved this to the "Finishing School" forum, where we discuss software related issues.

You may need to convert the Nikon D7100 NEF files to DNG files using the free Adobe DNG converter:

Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter for Macintosh

Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter for Windows

... and then use the PSCS5 against the converted DNG files.

Or open the RAW files in your Nikon software that came with your camera, to a tiff, and then edit the tiff in CS5, CS 6 or the editor of your choice.

Thanks for responding . I have just purchased Light Room 5 and was told it will open and allow processing of raw files . Is this so ?
    Thanks

Do be sure to do any updates to Lightroom 5 and I am certain that it will handle your Nikon D7100 NEF files natively. (The Lightroom updates should cover the ACR updates necessary to read current Raw files from current Raw-capable digital cameras.)
