Full Screen Background Image

I am contemplating using the full screen background image on my home page. If I did, how do I create the black background (table) that houses the nav bar on the side of the screen. Thx.

    If you go into your customize menu in the theme you can set a color and opacity for the different main sections of the page, like the side bars, header or footer under the advanced tab when you choose to edit the theme.
