Crater Lake Beta?

Anyone have any tips on Crater Lake for winter time shooting? I might head that way the first week of February and noticed the roads are closed for the winter that go around the rim. I'll be packing fairly light, but could rent an XC ski outfit somewhere to get to a better vantage point. Comfortable doing a big ski to get around the east side for sunset but not sure if the East Rim road is open for that. Won't be able to camp, so it will be a single day adventure only.

I'm not sure the village area is 'good enough' for a big photo mission but perhaps I'm wrong. What are my expectations for getting around?

    I just noticed this. The xc idea is probably the best way to get around the lake-I seem to remember a lot of the park access is closed in winter.

    Ended up walking in the hard pack with my goretex shoes & gaiters. Wasn't too bad as I only made it around to Discovery Point. Looking forward to getting back someday.
