Watermark sizing??? Always too large, and inconsistent.

I want to make my watermark very small - just large enough to be legible - and I want it to be the same size regardless of the underlying 'original' file size. Currently, no matter how small I make the watermark imaged, the watermark is still too large.

The point is to make it small for social media sharing, where I don't want to detract attention from the photo, I just want it large enough to read who the photographer is.

I would also like it to be the same relative size regardless of what camera was used. Right now, the images from my D3 result in different size watermarks than those from my D800. The size of the crop also affects it, and I don't want that.

Any advice?

Step 5 uses Photoshop's PLACE command ... "Using the place command is what makes the magic happen, so that our watermark image will appear the same size, no matter what original image resolution or orientation we are using. Not only will it make the watermark the same size, but it will be centered to each and every image, everytime!"

Unfortunately that would put the watermark on the Original image. Using watermarking in smug only puts the watermark on the display copies leaving the original untouched and usable for clean prints.

What are the pixel dimensions of your watermark? I started at 1500x375px and didn't like it until I got it down to 200x50px. I went to your site, but I could not find any examples of your watermark. Could you post some images with the problems you describe?

Here are some images from my site, one from my phone, Rebel, 40D, and 7D. all the watermarks appear to be exactly the same size. I can't reproduce the problem you described with images from your D3 and D800.

Here's an example - all the images in this gallery are watermarked, but I'd like them to be half the size at most. When I make the watermark file smaller, it just seems to 'blow it up' (up res) and then it looks pixelated...

I am using a png file for transparency, I assume that shouldn't be a problem? Should I be using a different file type?

Has there been any soulution for this? I also have a rather small watermark in the bottom left corner (200px) but SmugMug allways blow it up so it getts pixled, ugly and to big on the photo.

I would just add a bunch of transparent space around your watermark so that the image gets to 1000px in each direction or so. This will mean that SmugMug won't need to stretch it out to fill the space, it'll stay small. You can play around with it to fine tune the size.
