Grinding focus ring question

Hello everyone!
I just purchased a used Nikkor 85mm f/2 to try out on my D800. I got it for a song on eBay.
The problem is that when the lens is on my camera, there is a noticeable squeak/grind when I turn the focus ring, and a little resistance. I made a video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iE54fq6FQqo) and sent it to the seller to see what he says. The squeak doesn't bother me but the grinding makes me nervous.
Now here's the weird part. When I remove the lens from the camera body and spin the ring, no grinding whatsoever. Before you ask, yes the camera body has been set to M focus. I've had a cursory look and I can't tell what could be causing this.
