Have always dreamed of shooting a rodeo! It was joyous to see to come in contact with 'country'! Gorgeous cowgirls, hard working cowboys, 5 year old girls riding horses like wind and grandpas riding around with little ones who can't even walk yet!

Below are my attempts! Feel free to shred them....can't get better otherwise!

    Excellent set
    Simply fantastic.

Hard to select favorites, so many great shots.

Composition is great on so many shots. Number 9 stands for me as far as composition. Consider cloning out background content on left.

For 15 and especially 29 I wonder what a spot metered exposure would have produced? I ask because I have using that a lot lately with little kids when they are backlit or high sun side light. Also, I am aware that spot meter exposure takes more time to setup sometimes and that using at an event shooting is not always ideal.

    Uau mate. Excellent job.

I love that #1, but i would like it even more if it had a little more horse neck. But i love it has it is. Seeing it in fullscreen makes it even better.

some other portraits i would like to see more horse but they're fine. On the portraits #9 is really the best composition ;-) very good one

Then there's the action shots, and boy, you had a perfect run.

maybe just pick on #16 and do a tight crop to see the boy's face better and ask the ladys in #29 to take some more shots ;-)

Phil, Jonathan, Silvio, Sam and Cristobal....thank you guys! Made my day! wings.gifGetting encouragement from friends is just as joyous as taking pictures!! Lots of photo-ops at this place!

Phil - I would play with #9 to see if left side can be cloned out. I was in AV mode and was 1 f-stop over exposed for back-lit shot and had pretty high shutter. I used spot metering on their faces. Dust was all over so in post I felt contrast was low and also due to being back-lit so I had to crank it up.

Silvio - I also wanted bit more neck on #1...in post....should have taken more shots....but now can't make it happen.

    Thanks again guys!

These are just absolutely stunning. The action shots in particular are world class. What a wonderful opportunity you had and what a wonderful job you've done. (#3 reminds me of my son as a tyke. He's now 44)

Really well done, Taz. clap.gif I went to a truly great rodeo in Cody, Wyoming, last Summer. Your work here brings it all back to me. Shooting fast action requires skill....shooting the action at a rodeo is even tougher. You should be rightly proud of this body of work.I certainly would be.

    Take care,

I like #2 a lot - she would probably love to see/have it...
That 24-70L is a noticeably superior lens - dang if I don't want one even more now.
With regard to #29 and several others - I live in horse country too, and we have a sayin'

The individual pictures should be shared with the subjects. I know that I would love to have them. My guess is you didn't take names and serial numbers though.

In any case I enjoyed looking.

Based on this experience, I am going to get cards published because SO MANY people walked up to me asking for those, including bull riders and cowgirls and my answer was lame.....I will forward the link to front office. Thanks for kind words! Cheers!

Hi, I've looked at this series several times now - they really evoke the atmosphere of a day at the rodeo. If I were to pick a favourite it would be #18 - the muscle definition on the horse is fantastic. The 'funniest' is #24. The bull is just standing there whilst the rider is doing a spectacular (unplanned) dismount :D

    Cheers, Richard.

I love #6 - the way the horse has its head nestled into the girls waist. They are all very good shots, especially the action ones.
