Embedding and rights usage

I'm new to the whole social media/SEO aspect of SmugMug.

I understand that the more links to my site the higher the SEO ranking. If I enable image embedding, what exactly does that enable? Do I lose control over how/where the image is used? Does that enable anyone to put that picture in their webpage/social media? At what size? Are their other downsides?

Thanks - Dave

External embedding basically means that someone can embed your image in a blog post, website, etc. So, for instance - someone operating a Wordpress blog could see your image, decide they want to include it on their blog - and then embed it in their blog post. They could embed any of the sizes you've made publicly available (set with the Maximum Size setting in the Gallery Settings). Disabling external embedding would stop this from happening.
