I brought this up the other day, rather by accident ... I actually didn't realize the New SmugMug worked differently than Legacy and showed a static image. It's certainly a feature I'd love to have back too.

Just to be clear, Legacy SmugMug only showed / shows a static image if you choose a "Featured" image in tools for that gallery. If you didn't / don't choose one, then it rotates through the gallery for a different featured image every time you refresh. In that way, you had / have a choice. Best of all, I love Denise's idea of giving the tool a selection of images from that gallery from which to feature. That way it's not absolutely random & you can highlight your best shots, but it's also not so stagnant.

For everyone interested in this, I noticed the recent consolidation of feature requests into one place (which is a good step) and a quick search pulled up this request:

I'd encourage everyone to go vote on this one!

Yes, we've implemented a few changes on how we are approving, reviewing, merging, and commenting on the UserVoice. Hopefully you guys will like the effort we're putting in to make it a better tool!

I appreciate that effort. The problem of our suggestions being largely ignored is a little less important to me, however, than the problem of my website showing the exact same fourteen photos every time anyone reloads it even though I have almost eight thousand photos on it.

You do have some stunning photos in your galleries! I've found for repeat visitors (the one's that randomizing matters to), that the familiarity of seeing the same photo, often helps them navigate your site better. Of course, you can always change the feature photo every so often to keep the homepage from getting stale. With that said, I personally would still love for this to work like legacy too.

I'm checking in - has this feature been added to current version of SmugMug? If so, I will gladly update to current version. Otherwise, I will wait since I don't want to manually change the feature photos in multiple galleries just to keep my web site fresh.

    Hi Teresa,
