The Carousel Content Block was released several months ago and has had wonderful feedback from the SmugMug community, however, many of you requested additional features. We've listened and I'm pleased to announce the following improvements to the Carousel Content Block:

- Auto scroll (Carousel advances automatically)
- Keyboard navigation (viewers can advance photos by using arrows on their keyboard)
- Looping (when viewer reaches the end of the Carousel, it will loop back to the beginning automatically)
- Randomize images (the chosen set of images will have a random order every time the page is refreshed)
- 2 additional photo sources (Popular, Recent)

The Settings Panel has been reorganized to account for the new options.

This is all great news! The only thing I miss now is clickable images, then the Carousel could easily become the only gallery style I need!

Thanks leftquark for the info (and thanks to the dev-team for developing it :D) - That's cool news and a great improvement on carousels too.

Unfortunately choosing "Recent" comes with a tiny problem it seems:
If I build up my page to be multilingual (which I am preparing to) and those language-galleries contain smart-galleries to collect from the "original" gallery "somewhere else" I think I will end up with showing every photo up to 4 times (1 time for the original gallery, and 3 times for the specific language smart galleries).
As of now I can only see this in owner-view, as my soon-to-be first language gallery is not done yet and by that only visible to people with the link (pretty much nobody except me). But yes, in owner view I see duplicates.
So I would like to see some sort of checkbox "avoid duplicate photos" here too - and maybe additionally one to control from where the recent photos are taken, so that for example even in owner-view any-one-with-a-link galleries could be excluded by choosing "restricted to public galleries".

But yes, I like the new option of having "recent" photos shown in the carousel without having to manually update that gallery as well!

Would you be able to send me a link so I can investigate this? It shouldn't be duplicating the photos based on smart galleries or collections. To test this I set my Carousel to source from Recent, uploaded a new photo and verified it displayed in the Carousel. I then collected that photo to another gallery. I also created a new Smart Gallery. The photo only displays once in my Carousel.

Thanks for having had a look into this, leftquark.
It just turned out that the problem has another source - which is good and bad at the same time.
I am always uploading my photos via the original SmugMug Lightroom Plugin - but for my HDR/Artistic gallery something has gone wrong, two of the photos have been uploaded twice each... while I can see 6 photos in the plugin in LR I see 8 in my corresponding gallery.
These ones have duplicates: 20150305_070630_NO_Oslo_Oslo_March sunrise on the Oslofjord's shores_www.LilleUlven.com.jpg and 20150305_070630_NO_Oslo_Oslo_March sunrise on the Oslofjord's shores_www.LilleUlven.com-2.jpg (yea, looks like the same file to start with, if it had not been for the -2 at the end of the second one). I can well pretty much sync myself crazy via the plugin, but it never updates to 8 photos - it actually seems to be unable to match the duplicates.
If there is a way to find out which photos in SmugMug are synced with the plugin it would be great ... well if I am lucky a change on the originals will not be copied to the duplicates... - looks like I am lucky.
(I still would love to figure out why they got duplicates to start with ... )

Thanks a lot for your help - and I am sorry for sending you to check on this when I should have double checked my galleries instead!

Autoscroll is nice. We use medium, but it just somehow - "does not feel right". I know it is a subjective matter, so - still better than nothing. But - if it could be made more smooth? It just waits some bit, then scrolls quickly. But not sure how difficult would it be to implement - fast, smoother, fluid (continuous).

I think auto scroll is nice, but as soon as someone clicks to navigate, it should switch to manual mode.

Would the Slideshow content block work for that?

    Aaron,
I think what people are looking for is a combination of Carousel and Slideshow. Carousel si choppym not smooth, has an ugly scroll bar. Slideshow always fades regardless of the direction you pick. Please, look at the examples on these site, why can't we have a rolling images that exibit mdern, flat website design:

    http://www.authorize.net/
    http://www.wix.com/
    http://www.landroverusa.com/index.html
    ...

do you see how smooth and natural the transition from one image to the next is?

I see and do agree that those sites all transition photos much smoother! I'll see if there's anything we can do to improve the Carousel.

    Hello,

I find the carousel realy usefull but still need some adjustmentes. In my case when the loop comes to the end, the transition to the new cicle is horrible, it justs jumps. I have 43 photos in the loop:

Have a look to the same carousel in wix.com

I hope you can sort the end of the loop transition wings.gif
