It's been done before, but let's do "Sports & Games".

Any sport, or any game, fits the mandate. It can be a photograph of
people participating in a sport or game, or a photograph without a
participant if it relates to a sport or game. Please use CAPTIONS for
your photographs.

The captions on the examples provide some further suggestions.

The Challenge will run until Tuesday, April 14th.

The usual boilerplate applies:

################################################## ##########################
OUR UN-OFFICIAL GENERAL RULES
1. Have fun sharing and seeing what others share!
2. The host supplies a topic and YOU POST 1-3 IMAGES. The host judges the winners (1st, 2nd and 3rd) and is not eligible to enter. The 1st place winner becomes the next host, chooses the next topic and becomes the next judge.
3. Any photo you’ve taken is eligible, regardless of when taken or camera used.
4. Any amount of post-processing is allowed. However, it is helpful if you list your camera and lens along with your photo.
5. You may comment on other contestant's images. If you want someone to leave you some critique or criticism, just ask within your post.
6. The winner has up to three days (72 hours) to begin a new mini-challenge, or the honor goes to the #2 finisher and so forth.

Guidelines:
1. Enter 1-3 photos and put them in a single post.
2. Either embed your image in the thread or, if you must, supply a link to it. Keep in mind, however, most people don't want to click to open photos hosted elsewhere (i.e. on your website).
3. Also try and resize your photos prior to posting so they're sized appropriately for viewing without having to scroll (~800 pixels on the longest side works best.)
4. Give each image you enter a title.
5. Enjoy discussion with members about their images, don't let this just be an entry thread!
6. When quoting a post, change the IMG urls to a 200x200 size picture so it is clear your post is feedback and not another entry. (See here for help).
7. Don't be hesitant; share 'em and enter!

Mini-Challenge pointers:
1. Upon winning a mini-challenge round, your first step is coming up with a new theme and starting a new thread using the same format as others have used.
2. Make sure to notify the admin of this thread to update the main thread links with your entry thread.
3. Feel free to watch the thread as it grows or wait to the end time and look at all the entries all at once.
4. After the time/date has passed, then officially close the thread with a single post notifying everyone of the fact.
5. After you're finished judging, start a new thread (again using the prior formats) and post your Winner and runners-up. It is important to have runners up in case the winner does not show within the 72-hour window.
6. PM the winner with this info above and let them know they have 72 hours to set up the next mini-challenge.
7. If the winner does not show/start the next mini-challenge after 72 hours, notify the next runner-up and post a message on the Winner thread of the fact.
8. Remember, if you're the Winner, you run the next mini challenge!

Some nice shots have been sent in, but more are needed!

I like the idea that some black-and-whites have been sent.
Black-and-white for sports is under-utilized, but it
can give the same dramatic punch in sports that it does
    in portraiture.

The last Sports and Games mini required a face and toys (at least that is what I remember). Not sure if I should enter this one because I won the last one, but I think that was a fluke and I have little chance of really winning this since there are so many good shots already. So I will go ahead.

This is my daughter on her pony jumping a preliminary level stadium in 1982. She was 14 - he was older

This is the same pair at a 3-Day event stadium. Even though the ideal photo is at the apex of jump, this one is amusing to me because she's looking back to see if she cleared the jump which is a no no for riders.

my electricity went off twice while I was doing this - the laptop would still work, but not the modem. So I'll be back with a third one.

Not doing much photography of more normal sports, I do more with racing. So my pictures are more along though lines.

    NEATV0518-L.jpg
2010 AMA National Champion Josh Creamer points at me mid jump while racing at a local track. I found him in the pits later to thank him. He said he noticed my sunglasses and decided to give me some good opportunities for pictures. He did the same thing later that day in another race as well.

    GrassDrags2786-L.jpg
Once each summer, a local farm helps put on a snowmobile show and races. There are water crossings, grass drag races, and water races that include multiple laps around a small pond. The rider seen here is doing the water race which he eventually won.

    GrassDrags2766-L.jpg
From the same event as the last photo, this was the grass drag races. Riders can reach speeds of 80+ mph in just a few hundred feet on this course.

Here are some shots from (muggle) quidditch--a take-off on the game made popular in the Harry Potter books. These are from the "House Cup" at my daughter's university. It's kind of a strange game, but really fun to watch.

The game has 7 players on each side. Two Chasers who try to score by throwing the quaffle (a partially deflated soccer ball) through the hoops. Two Keepers who guard the hoops to try to keep the other team from scoring. Two Beaters who throw 'bludgers' (partially deflated dodgeballs) at other players to take them out of play. If a player is 'beat' he/she must drop the ball and quit playing and then must run back to his/her goal and tag the goal posts to get back into play. One Seeker whose sole purpose is to catch the Snitch. Each player must have one hand on their 'broomstick' at all times. The balls are partially deflated to make them easier to handle (since you have to play one-handed for the most part.) The 'Snitch' is usually a person dressed in yellow with either a 'flag' or something similar attached to them. The Seeker must grab the flag from the Snitch. There are lots and lots of rules which I only barely know some of them. I like to watch my daughters team play, but I can barely keep up. It is very fast-paced! Think cross between dodgeball and rugby. They don't wear pads or protective equipment and they do tackle. There are referees.

    2. My daughter (in blue) plays Beater. She just hit that player next to her with the bludger and is trying to get the ball back before another Beater gets there first. Look at that face!
    P4114177-1-L.jpg

    3. Honestly, I don't know if the guy in the red shirt (#13) is trying to score or block it. He doesn't have his headband on so I can't tell his position. I 'think' the white headband is the Chaser, but I'm not sure. The Black headband is definitely Beater though.
    P4114250-L.jpg

I just don't really do much sports, but I took these just for fun.
