Pinned header does not resize

Hello everyone,

I reported a problem with the pinned header to SM helpdesk in April and since then they keep telling me that they do not have an update from the engineers or from the QA department.

If the Header section on the Entire Site is pinned, the Header is not scaling horizontally when the browser window dimensions are changed. Does anyone else notice this bug? Watch Video of the issue

    Hi,
I can confirm that our QA team has filed a bug report to the engineers. For the time being, if you do manually resize your browser window, try a manual refresh. I understand that this isn't a permanent solution, but right now there isn't any update on the issue.

I have this in my queue but do not have an update on it. Do you have a link to an example that I can play with?

Is there a chance this bug is fixed before October 15?

I'll do my best to get this fixed before October 15th.

By the way, you're New SmugMug site is looking REALLY nice! Well done! But I can also see why you're so passionate about getting this fixed. It's pretty bad once a user scrolls to have the header not resize with the rest of the site.

Thank you for the complements and thank you for really looking into it and understanding why it is important. I'll be honest - it is not always that you see this type of acknowledgement of a problem from SM. If it can be fixed - perfect! If not - well.. I will have to let go of pining for a while.

I am curious - noone else noticed this? It's a pretty noticeable effect with a direct impact to the UI... and not a mention of this issue in this forum but mine? :)

I'm actually rather surprised by this myself. The initial bug reported was filed a few months ago and between a change in our Bug Reporting procedures and DGrin, it landed on my lap. My hypothesis (and this is a hypothesis) is that perhaps the number of people who scroll down a page, then resize it, are fairly small? I do want to assure you that we've made some pretty big changes in how we tackle bugs lately (they're all assigned to Product Managers now, who can then align them with our priorities and work them to closure) in an effort to close bugs like this a lot quicker. We do take each bug report seriously.

This has been hanging around for a long time.
When I'm in a gallery with a lot of photos and see an error or need a change to a caption
or KW, I log in and end up on the 1st photo in the gallery. Why is the result not landing
    on the photo.

I haven't seen a problem with a pinned header when resizing - but there is a problem with the display after a resize. Most of my galleries use Collage Landscape. If I resize the browser window the heading stays pinned but I am popped back to the top of the gallery, losing my current position.

I hadn't noticed this before, but I'm seeing the same problem. Collage has to resize the images (and sometimes the layout) when you change the width of the browser, but not the height. Since the content may have changed, it's not altogether clear what returning to the same position means, but it certainly doesn't mean going to the top.

Come to think of it, I'm using landscape collage exclusively, so the behavior might be different with portrait. Dunno.

I'm not using the SM header, just a pinned menu, but it does seem to resize correctly.

Ah, that's true - I wasn't thinking about the photos resizing. It would be nice if somehow the photo was remembered with the resize but I can live with it as it is (even though I would prefer the photos in viewing range stay in viewing range).

I'm not using the SM header either, just my pinned site heading.

A nice rule of thumb would be that the pic that's sorta in the middle of the screen stays sorta in the middle. I can guarantee that the developers would have a fit with that as a specification. rolleyes1.gif

Hi Denise. I was able to reproduce this bug on a brand new account on a page that has just a pined header and some photos that span maltipe pages (so you can scroll). The video of it is in my first post. I was trying to make sure that this is a bug and not something that i "customized" :)

I apologize that this has taken so long but I wanted to let you all know that this bug has been fixed.... the Pinned Header will now properly resize when the browser is resized, when scrolling down part-way, then resizing.

    Hi Michael,

I noticed that all of the pages on your website require a password - this includes the Home, Who We Are and Services page. Is this what you wanted? A visitor to your site can't see anything on it.

    Cheers,

Aaron - I do appreciate the pinned header bug to be fixed so quickly. I do see another bug that I have not seen before - which makes me think it might be associated with the fix you pushed for the pinned header.

When you are on any of the pages with tiles (gallery, folders, etc) and you scroll down the page, perhaps to the last raw of images - if you , then, change the size of the browser, for instance maximize the browser, the entire page jumps up to the very top. So, if you were looking at the very bottom of a scrollable page then the page will bring you all the way to the top.

Aaron - is it replicatable on other sites? If it only affects my site (one single site) - then it must be my fault and I will debug all my code. Don't waste time if it is not SM's bug. But if it is - I greatly appreciate if it is fixed:)

I'll setup a test on my own site on Monday and see what's going on. I imagine if it happens on your site, it happens on all of them. Regardless, we take every bug report seriously and any effort looking into a bug, whether it's ours or yours, is not wasted. I'll let you know what we find.
