Minnehaha falls (again)

Hi folks.

I met up with some other photographers from Mn. today to shot the Falls.

4 of us showed at 7:00 this morning, including our own Grimace.
It was about 10 degrees F, with a light snow coming down. The sky was
so gray, I could have shot on the B&W mode, and you'd have to look hard
to see the difference.

Here are a few shots.
Taken with a Canon XT with the kit lens and 2 stop ND filter.
Photo's fixed in Photoshop Elements 4
I converted the last 3 to B&W.

2s f/16.0 at 40.0mm iso100

6s f/22.0 at 18.0mm iso100

4s f/16.0 at 18.0mm iso100

8s f/16.0 at 18.0mm iso100

Thanks guys.
It was fun to get out with some other/new folks and snap off a few pics.
The one thing I didn't do, was get some snow shots. There was a nice, light
fluffy snow falling the whole time we were there. Next time I'll remember.

When I looked at the first two I honestly thought it was a small little fall but the photogs really help show how big and beautiful it is

I've read that it's a 53 foot drop.
As for the cold. Hey, it's Minnesota. 10 degrees isn't cold.:D

I'm almost embarrassed to post what I shot with you. You really did a great job especially given the lighting we had, the snow coming down, and the temperature.

I'd have to say #1 is my favorite but for some reason I'm really draw to #4 (what could it be?).

CWPhotos, maybe. I don't think I have anything going on Saturday, but my
wife may change that. Xmas is coming, and we need to get out shopping
at some point.
You can pm on this board and maybe we can work something out.

Adam, come on, show something. If folks see it you may get some help on
how to make them better.

Tristan, I think I posted how I convert pics to B&W, but I can't find the post.
It has to do with layers, and gradient map.

#3 turned out OK. but this is what is looked like out of the camera.

Hard to believe it's the same pic.
So Adam, post a couple, and we'll see what we can do.

Tristan, here is the condensed version. (cause I can't find the old post)

Pick a picture, any picture and open it in photoshop
I used Photoshop Elements 2 for this.

Then you want to click on layers.
Then make a new layer of a gradient map, and choose black and white.

Sharpen, contrast, brighten, whatever else you may need to do, then save as

There are easier ways to do this, but for me, I think this way works the best.
Hope this helps, I know it's a quick run through, but if you've used elements
before, it will be all you need.

I really like the last, that bridge is beautiful, but that photographer is lurking way to much, hehe. Excellent photos though.

Lovely shots! I am a big fan of long exposures, and I can't make up my mind which photo I like best. OK, #2 is probably the most appealing to me, but all are beautiful. Good job!

What a great subject to photograph david. You caught it beautifully. I can only dream of seeing ice like that. I have only seen it on a car windscreen a handfull of times in my life.

Thanks again folks.
This is one of the most dreary days I've ever gone out shooting.
To have anything turn out, (even though I screwed up the exposure) makes
it a little bit better.

i love the first one. i feel that the blue in it really adds to the ice as oppose to the B&W, but you can't really tell too much. great shot

dave, thanks for the memories of minneapolis. when i used to run, i spent many a saturday morning at that park, that's where a lot of them started. the shots are stunning, i really like the one with the other photographers to give it scale. the one with the photographer on the bridge with the water moving underneath reminds me of an old photograph, before we got fast film and paper.

cold is nothing new here.....it's been hanging around zero all week......ouch
