The flowers win!

The Botanic Garden of Smith College (luckily has inside space in a conservatory and) holds a spring bulb show for two weeks every March, starting on the first weekend of the month. I carefully watched the weather forecast last week, choosing to visit on Tuesday. It was a no precipitation day sandwiched between two nor'easters, one a rain event, one a snow event.

If I lived closer to Northampton I think I would visit every day. I've been craving color and flowers; this show was a perfect foil for late winter blues.

The predominant flowers were tulips and daffodils. There were smaller number of other spring flowers as well. Here are a few to whet your appetite for spring.

Denise, thanks for this hint of spring. They are all lovely, but I am partial to #1. The soft colors and the shallow DOF gives it a dreamy quality that appeals to me.

Nicely done, Denise. We have number four blooming in our yard at the moment but our seasons work a little differently than yours.

Thank you! It's funny, I saw crocus and snowflakes in a garden a couple of weeks ago but nothing since then. We apparently are waiting for another nor'easter to hit with snow tomorrow night. Maybe spring will pop in soon.

Truly great stuff, Denise. Honestly, it's hard to pick a favorite....perhaps #2 but it's a close call. I hope you're doing well.

Thank you! I have trouble picking a favorite from these too. I feel lucky to have spent some time in this exhibit - and to even know that it occurs. It wasn't until late last year that I discovered Smith College's botanic gardens. I'm looking forward to my first glimpse of their outdoor gardens in the spring.

Thank you! I look forward to attending this show each year, it's good to know there will be spring during the winter months.
