Freddie Gilroy

Just returned from a brilliant holiday travelling up and down the Yorkshire coast here in the UK. One of the images on my bucket list had to be the king sized statue of Freddie Gilroy.

Freddie sits all alone looking out over Scarborough's North Bay. Such a great history to go with the statue too.

    Thanks Stumble, appreciate the comments.

Freddie was one of the very young soldiers who helped rescue prisoners of war from the infamous Belsen Concentration Camp during WWII. The very large statue was created by fabricator and sculptor Ray Lonsdale and was said to represent all the normal people that were pulled out of an ordinary life and sent to do extraordinary and dangerous duties during the World Wars.
