A super useful feature for Smugmug would be a simple way to share photos to Facebook, perhaps exactly like the one that was recently removed. Or maybe better, like with captions transferring too like they used to!

The problem is unfortunately not that Smugmug does not want to support the functionality, but that FB has changed its API and does no longer allow sharing to personal profiles from outside of FB. So even if Smugmug was still providing the functionality for it FB would not allow it to be used on their side.
Basically, every sharing-application to FB has the same problem since August 1, 2018 - no sharing to personal profiles.

Facebook did a number of weird things, which was unfortunate for all of us. The big thing was that the stopped letting us post links back to your photos on your SmugMug site. This was the main use-case for SmugMug'ers to publish to FB: have a link back to their site so they could get the views on FB but have them pushed to their site. If they ever change that policy, we'll be happy to reconsider!

Are we talking about the automatic "via smugmug" that used to be under the title of the photo? most of my photos on facebook have a link back to my gallery, but I manually added all those.

It was a combination of the little "via SmugMug" tag but we were also able to put a link directly to the photo into the caption for you. If you're publishing 500 photos from SM to Facebook, it's not feasible to manually add links to each of the FB captions.

Yeah I recall that, but didn't that go away more like two years ago? I haven't had captions or links transferring for a long time.
