'feature image' resizing

I notice that what's displayed in the banner as a gallery's 'feature image' is badly rendered - at a low resolution. Is there a way one can optimize this, maybe be creating a properly resized image just for this purpose?

The gallery's "Feature Image" is the image displayed on the parent folder just before you click into a gallery. The "Cover Image" is the one used at the top of the gallery. Both of these adhere to the "Maximum Display Size" of the gallery, so if it's set to something small, it may be rendered at a small resolution. You could increase the Max Display Size and it should load at a higher resolution.

Thanks leftquark, I went from 'L' to 'X2" and that improved things. I didn't realize there was a separate gallery setting for 'Cover Image' - apparently if you don't make that selection, the 'Featured Image' becomes the cover image.

Yep! If you enable "Cover Image" to ON, but don't select a specific photo then we try to pick one for you:

    • Your "Feature Image" if one is set and it's horizontal
    • If it's a portrait image, then we try to use the first horizontal image we can find
    • If there is no horizontal photo, then we temporarily disable the Cover Image until one exists.
