Earth-fan Thelophora terrestris

This fungus is one we rarely see. It is quite difficult recognise unless seen from above.

This was on a rotting hollow tree stump.

Olympus EM-1, (aperture priority), Olympus 4/3 50mm f2 macro, f9, hand-held. ISO 200 and 2500, shutter speeds as low as 1/8 and 1/3 second, hand held. The later shots were in manual mode with flash.

The stereos are crosseye.

Nice shots, and a fascinating subject. I don't think we have anything quite like it in western North America, but I will be looking at rotting stumps a lot more closely now!

We don't see it very often and that one is an exceptionally large one.

About a week later I found on on sandy heathland but that was only about 30mm across.
