SmugMug Lightroom Plugin installation issue / question

I've tried to follow the steps at https://help.smugmug.com/en_us/upload-from-lightroom-HkEIllw1Erz for installing the plugin via Adobe CC into my Lightroom Classic. However the described mechanism did not work. After a number of calls at Adobe, they recommended to switch back to the manual way of installing it on my Mac directly into $HOME/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/Modules. The plugin now works, but can I be sure that the update mechanism of the plugin does not somehow interfere with Adobe CC, as Adobe CC is not aware of this plugin. In the plugin manager within Lightroom, I have checked the "Automatically check for updates" flag for the Smugmug plugin. Any insights or recommendations?
