Font styles in photo title block?

I have photos of insects in Smugmug galleries. Here's a link to one such gallery: https://mcamann.smugmug.com/Insect-macro-photography/Coleoptera/

I would like to italicize the species names in their respective photo titles. Not the whole titles, just the genus and species names. I've tried adding HTML tags around the words to italicize, but so far that isn't working. I'm probably missing something obvious for converting words in the photo title to italics, but I haven't had any success yet.

Can someone please give me some advice on how to proceed? Thank you!

Best,
Mike C.

    Try this EDIT: Looks like Smug does not allow HTML in the title. Sorry

    <span style="font-style: italic">Ophiocordyceps ravenelii</span>
    <br>
    on a Polyphylla decemlineata host.

    <span style="font-style: italic">Lampetis drummondi</span>
    <br>
    Drummond's blue footed buprestid beetle.

    You could easily do this added it all to the caption.

    As far as I know, you are not missing anything. Smugmug strips HTML out of photo titles. I don't know of a way introduce formatting there. HTML does survive in captions, but even there the story is mixed. The HTML gets exercised in the Lightbox and in the Smugmug and Journal gallery style displays, but the multi-image displays in the Thumbnail and Collage gallery styles ignore it. So the distinctly imperfect work-around might be to only use captions and limit your display to some gallery styles. More general acceptance of HTML has been on my wishlist -- not at the top, but there -- for quite a while. I think I posted first on the topic in 2014! I'd personally would really welcome being able to use anchor tags. Others whose sites use Latin binomials have raised the issue too, so far with no action in response.

    FYI... Here's one of the threads where Jtring (and I) I argued against stripping HTML from captions in the Collage gallery styles. The standard convention of italicizing scientific names is a good justification.

    I asked for the very same thing (italicized latin names) in 2013. https://dgrin.com/discussion/239043/italic-text-in-photo-title#latest Hope you have better luck.
