I agree Sara, the Notre Dame in Paris is special and it's in Paris, but it is rather dark inside. I haven't visited Reims (yet) but the one in Amiens really impressed me. Much lighter, an enormous space and very special tiled floors.

Here's one of the shots I took there that show these attributes

At some point on every trip I do, I end up taking pictures of churches. The architecture and setting are usually interesting, and the detail usually reveals a lot about the culture of the place

I was in Amiens in 1989 and what I really remember is its immense size and those fantastic patterned black and white floors. Great shot.

This little chapel sits in the middle of a field about a 45-minute bike ride away from us. It was privately built and the inside is completely clad in copper.

    Looking up at the ceiling:

Along the wall are windows portraying the various stations of the cross (Catholics will know what that is...)

Fantastic Sara, beautiful architecture and the stained glass windows are very nice. I could probably spend some time in there taking photo's.

Here's another little chapel out in the middle of nowhere (Salfen, near Malle, Belgium), unfortunately I couldn't go inside since it was locked.

The only drawback is that It's VERY dark. I had to overexpose at 1600 iso to get anything.

The inflatable church is located inside the Barber Motorsports Park near Birmingham, Alabama with Sunday services for the campers, attendees and racers.

Love the inflatable church. It reminded me of this one, spotted on a Sunday morning bike tour while we were on a weekend getaway at a lake/resort area.

    This is Church Rock
Such amazing architecture, something that I do not get to enjoy as much in the deserts of Arizona.
But I do have a church made with out hands.

    Troyan Monastery, Bulgaria
The smallest but also the oldest orthodox monastery in Bulgaria.

Icon of the three-handed Mary, located within the church building

Тhe left figure holds the glagorishna alphabet in his hands
    - if my translations (I can decypher modern cyrillic print, but this is a little above my knowledge :disappointed: ) are somewhat correct these are the Holy Boris-Michael (Zar) and Holy Peter (Zar)

Frescoes inside the church tell the bible's stories like this one:

Inside the church - Icons next to the entrance to the alter (which is only accessible to the priest, and not to "common believers")

Frescoes and Icons on the outside (I believe on the western wall, but I might be wrong here)

I learned about the cathedral in Albi, France about 30 years ago and have wanted to visit it ever since. This summer I finally got the chance - it exceeded my expectations beyond belief. Wow!

    1) It is claimed to be the largest brick building in the world. It is indeed immense and looks rather stern from outside.

    2) But one you get inside, all thoughts of sternness are blown away.

    3) and the ceiling...

    4) the classic view of the Cathedral and Bishop's Palace towering above the river Tarn.
