Mini Challenge #320 Bridges

I have about run out of idea for a new mini. I thought I had done all of the favorite things to photograph (food, lighthouses). I was considering doing non-sunset silhouettes when I looked at my photo albums, and a light went on -

Bridges

I have taken a lot of photos of bridges. This is partly because a lot of my photos are taken from a boat as we go under the bridge. From a boater's perspective, the five main types of bridges are
1. Fixed bridge (most bridges are of this type and there are various types of fixed bridge)
2. Bascule bridges where one or two sides lever up
3. Swing briges - the bridge pivots on a central point
4. Lift bridges - the whole rail bed or road bed lifts up (example at the bottom)
5. Pontoon bridges where the bridge actually floats on the water

This includes bridges that aren't over water of course, and also viaducts etc. Here are some examples:

Old RR bridge which was converted to a highway bridge - Bahia Honda

Crossing the Sydney Harbor Bridge

Going under the Chesapeake Bay Bridge

Bermuda

Iron Bridge

Aqueduct

Inside the Galleria in Naples

Covered Bridge

Natural Bridge, Virginia

Lift bridge in Norfolk

This mini will be close on Thursday July 9 at noon (Eastern Daylight time)

No-bungee bridge jumping in Banos, Ecuador. The principle is to jump as far out as you can, and then swing on the rope... As I said "crazy"

Good topic, GrandmaR. Here are my three:

    1) Sentinel (walking) Bridge over the Merced River in Yosemite NP.

    2) Bridge on California Coast highway. This is one of the seldom recognized bridges on the coast- there are much more famous ones along the way.

    3) This Foresthill Bridge (also known as the Auburn-Foresthill Bridge) that crosses over the North Fork of the American River. It's the highest bridge at deck level in California, the fourth highest in the United States, and among the seventy highest in the world at 730 feet above the river. And yes, I live in Foresthill and have to cross it to get home from the madding crowd.

It's been a while since I've been able to participate in these mini's. I don't have many bridge photos, but I can at least find something!

    1. Fishing Bridge at Yellowstone NP

    2. Sedona

    3. Brooklyn Bridge

I hope to participate more from now on since things seem to be settling down (finally). I've just been so busy with work, life, and photography.

Really like the covered bridge , contrast, sharpness and color

Thank you Rob - that is just an example to give people an idea of photos that they might have taken that would work to submit. So it isn't a submission for the mini. The Natural Bridge photo and the Galleria photo are a little different from the rest because they were taken in 1959 for Natural Bridge and 1964 for the Galleria and are digitized slides.

    1. John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge

At the time it first opened to traffic in 1867, this was the longest suspension bridge in the world. Roebling later went on to design the Brooklyn Bridge.

    2. Albany Covered Bridge, New Hampshire

    3. Mackinac Bridge

This bridge crosses the Straits of Mackinac, connecting the lower and upper peninsulas of Michigan.

I'll jump in at the last minute - although I already had quite a few bridge pictures, two days ago we got back from a month-long RV trip to southern France where I took MANY more bridge pictures. I decided to limit my selection to somewhat lesser-known subjects, all medieval, since the famous bridges (Millau Viaduct, Pont d'Avignon, Pont du Gard etc.) are all so well documented. These pictures were all taken in the past three weeks.

    1) The Pont Vieux in Carcassonne over the Aude River

    2) Bridge over the Tarn in Quézac

    3) Two bridges at the entrance of the Bambouseraie de Prafrance near Anduze in the Cevennes

Thank you Sara for getting in under the time.

The mini is now closed. I will try to have the results up today.
