Also known as Trametes betulina, this is occasionally found on rotting tree stumps. It has various medicinal properties.

It differs from co-generic species but having false gills.

The stereos are crosseye & conventional.

Olympus EM-1, (aperture priority), Olympus m4/3 30mm f3.5 ED macro, 1/60 at f11 ISO 1000, hand-held.

    Its close neighbour has been around a while longer. (Partly-processed JPEG).

    You would usually be right. They are very similar but this one has something resembling gills.
