Smart Galleries from Collected Photos?

I place all my photos in unpublished galleries, then make a subset available using collected public galleries.

I'd like to combine a few of the collected galleries, but it seems like smart galleries only query real photos and not collected shots. Is this correct? Is there a workaround?

    Unless you upload a photo twice there is only one original on your site.
    I think collecting only creates a virtual link to the original.
    Notice that all changes to collected photos, caption etc, are also changed on the original.

    Hi! Collecting and smart galleries use "virtual copies" of your images. While it is possible to collect a collected image I wouldn't recommend it, it's best to collect from the original location.

    You mention "unpublished" galleries. Are you referring to unlisted? If a gallery is private the images will not appear for guests. You CAN collect from unlisted or public galleries.

    Also, at this time smart galleries are limited 1000 virtual images.
