Shaw AFB Air Show - April 2022

We got to our first air show of the year a few weeks ago at Shaw AFB in South Carolina. Turned out to be a great day weather-wise and show-wise.

1 - de Havilland DH-115 Vampire, the first single-engine jet fighter

2 - US Air Force Heritage Flight, P-51 and F-16

3 - MiG-17

4 - USAF Thunderbirds launching

5 - Mirror Image

6 - Thunderbird Solo

7 - Touchdown!

8 - Crossing pass...always great to get one of these right!

    Great shots, as always! How is it that they have an old MIG to fly?

    Thanks, David! There are a few old MiGs that are privately owned and operated on the air show circuit.

    Really good work, John. I've never seen a de Havilland Vampire in flight before. That crossing pass maneuver takes more guts and nerves than I've got. When the Blue Angels perform at NAS Jacksonville....which is right across the river from my home....I get treated to two full days of practice and I don't have to leave my property.

    I always wanted to lie naked on a bearskin rug in front of a fireplace. Cracker Barrel didn't take kindly to it.

    A wonderful set of photos and great aircraft!

    I like image # 2.

    One can kinda hear the F-16 saying to the P-51..."come on little brother, I got ya covered."

    Also very interesting in a side-by-side shot such as this, to see the dramatic and distinct advances in aerodynamics and aircraft design.

    That MiG 17 belongs to Randy Ball, he has a couple of them and a few more military jets from the 60's, he his a regular performer at the Airshows here in the States, he is based in Tyler Texas.
    I am a volunteer for the Vietnam War Flight Museum at Ellington Field in Houston Texas and we have a MiG 15, MiG 17, MiG 21 and several other planes all fly-worthy and we fly the MiG 15 during our airshow in October
