Shipping options issue

How come when I go to buy something off smugmug I'm given four choices for shipping, but the first two are almost always the same? "Priority Mail to United States ($4.95 USD)". Once I believe the first shipping option came up as a lower-cost option with a different name, which is cool, because I don't always need things fast, nor do I always want to pay $5 for shipping.

We just completed a new shipping costs table that will be attached to the new shopping cart, so the answer to your question is fresh on my mind....

EZ Prints only ships large gift items, such as mugs and t-shirts, via priority mail, which is $4.95. Our interface should gray out the first option and it should continue to say first-class mail to avoid the confusion you're seeing. I'll have to check to see if that's scheduled to change in the future.

Prints up to 10x15 are shipped flat and can be sent via registered mail, and that option displays correctly. Beyond 10x15, they're shipped in tubes and EZ Prints charges $5.95 for those.

    Clear as mud?

    Thanks!

Actually, yes. :) And greying out options that cannot be chosen does make the user interface more understandable.

I was ordering a t-shirt, BTW, which explains the shipping option choices I saw.

Actually, we don't have to "grey out" the interface with things that can't be chosen - they're just not displayed.

The "choose shipping method" page is generated on-the-fly for each and every order, and only shows the shiipping methods that match whatever items you have in your cart.

    Still as clear as mud?

It is clear, if you mean that is the way it will become. If you mean that is the way it is now, that is incorrect. What I had show up were four shipping options, the first two of which were identical in every way.

We met with EZ Prints yesterday and discussed this issue. Long story short, they are returning two identical values to us under certain circumstances, so we've decided the best thing is to just compare and eliminate one when they're identical.

Don't have an estimate for when we can make this fix.

    Thanks,
