login cookie not working for domain name aliases?

hiya,

currently i have the following set up:

photos.dominik.net points at smugmug's IP address (unfortunately my host doesn't support direct cname -> address)

this is all well and good; browsing from there i can type in passwords for protected galleries etc.

however, i cannot login to my smugmug control panel while using photos.dominik.net. I click login, and then get redirected to https://www.smugmug.com/login.mg?goTo=http://photos.dominik.net/

This then takes me to:
https://www.smugmug.com/login.mg

This displays the familiar:
You've logged in!
In 10 seconds, you'll automatically go back to the [page you were viewing] or you can go to [your smugmug homepage].

Now the redirect takes me back to http://photos.dominik.net/, where I'm not logged in... I see login clickable again :-/

However, [your smugmug homepage] takes me back to http://dominik.smugmug.com/, where I see I am indeed logged in and can use my control panel.

In short it looks like it is only handing out the login cookie from a smugmug.com domain, not photos.dominik.net; this contrasts with password protected or sharegroups, which work fine on photos.dominik.net

Is this working-as-intended? I.e. do I have to access via dominik.smugmug.com to do admin work? If so, so be it; but if not, have I misconfigured something somewhere?

    Correct. nickname.smugmug.com for admin work.

And, we ONLY support CNAME Aliasing. Not forwarding or anything else. You'll find that cookies, passwords, and shopping cart functionality can be limited.

Who is your domain host? we have helped many folks get proper CNAME Aliasing to work or get set up -- or, you can easily change domain hosts, too.

    I use westhost.com -- I currently have photos.dominik.net pointed at smugmug's IP.

I can also access my domain name via Network Solutions but uh, have to send them a fax since the e-mail they have registered no longer works :p I'm pretty sure I can set up a proper CName Alias there :)

Thanks again! The response time on these forums continues to amaze me.
