Hi Y'all,

I was up at the rookery in St. Augustine and it was getting a tad warm so I took a shade break. While resting I noticed that besides the egrets, herons and storks they had alligators!!!!!!

I began to understand why they called the place "The Alligator Farm". It had always seemed to be a strange name for a rookery. :D

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

I like the second to last one! Why is he green, pale green? Alone?

Too many in the other shots...........they should weed out their aligators.

Do aligators have any natural enemies, other than poachers?

Thanks Ginger. The greenish coloring is the parts of the gator that are below the surface of the water. The agtors were massed together because it was feeding time. They have no natural enemies other than man.

Thanks Shay. I would leave the sandwich to them also. The one thing they do well is eat.

    good series,
BTW, the Raccoon eats baby alligators - you might want to invest in one should the need develop.........

That's why I retired. It kind of reminded me of the NYC subway at rush hour. The only difference is that the gators had better manners.

Actually the birds nest there because of the gators. The biggest threat to the nest is racoons. There ain't no racoon who is going to get past those gators. The gators' reward is the occasional hatchling that falls or gets pushed out of the nest.
