  Sounds cool - Birders have been digiscoping with P&S cameras - frequently CoolPixes, and spotting scopes for several years. Try googling digiscope and you will find lots and lots of links.
  
  I'll have to buy an FSA-3 for my CoolPix and give it a try now

  ScopeTronix also sells adapters for telescopes.
  
  I have a T-ring mount and an eyepiece thread on.
  
  Can't say I've ever used the scope as a lens for anything other than the moon
  or stars though.
