    I'm a fan of ViewSonic myself... I have VP171b and VP201b LCDs.

17" CRT, huh.... Then I'd get this one: ViewSonic P75f+B. Flat Screen, does 1600x1200 res (and even higher), around $200 US.

Are CRTs better for photos than LCDs?
    I have a Samsung SyncMaster 730B.
I've noticed no difference with it and my former NEC MultiSync FE770.
But, this LCD has made it so that I can sit it ontop of my stereo receiver and not cave it in.
The CRT was so heavy, and now I even have more room by not needing an extra table for the CRT.:):
