Higher megapixels give you more detail and definition for large prints and cropping in on your subject. Sony's advanced Super HAD (Hole Accumulated Diode) CCD design allows more light to pass to each pixel, increasing sensitivity and reducing noise.

The Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar Lens with 12x optical zoom helps the DSC-H5 bring distant subjects closer and lets you frame shots for better composition; Furthermore, Sony's precision 2x Digital Zoom provides additional magnification to zoom in close without jagged edges. Sony's Smart Zoom feature lets you magnify your subject beyond the 12x optical zoom - to 16x (5MP), 18x (3MP), even 57x (VGA). By intelligently cropping into the central portion of the scene, it avoids the image distortion of other digital zooms.

By evaluating 3 separate focus areas of the frame, Sony's Multi-Point AF system can intelligently focus on the subject and avoid mistakenly focusing on the background. The AF Illuminator briefly illuminates the subject, in low- or no-light conditions, and helps to establish a positive focus lock. Monitoring AF helps you anticipate the action by focusing even before you press the shutter release.
•Flexible Exposure Modes
With the DSC-H5, you can choose Auto or Program Auto for convenience, or get creative with Aperture Priority or Shutter Priority modes. Manual Exposure Mode provides extended control with 46-step adjustable Shutter speed (30 - 1/1000 second), and 10-step Aperture control (f/2.8 - f/8.0).
•Very Large 3.0" LCD Screen
The DSC-H5 has a bright 3.0" LCD screen for setting up and viewing images. There is also a one touch "Play" button that makes it quick and easy to view your photos.
•Simple Controls and Function Guide
User-friendly controls and simple on-screen Function Guide text/icon display help you set up camera functions resulting in greater creative freedom to adjust color mode (including "Natural" for subtle colors and "Vivid" for more intense colors), sensitivity, brightness and image size.
•High Sensitivity Mode
A High Sensitivity Mode (ISO 1000) allows you to shoot with great results in low-light conditions, and Sony's original Clear RAW NR (Noise Reduction) image processing technology helps suppress the color noise that can accompany high-sensitivity shooting.
•MPEG Movie VX Standard/Fine Mode with Audio
Captures VGA (640 x 480) high frame rate (up to 30 frames per second) audio/video clips with length limited only by the capacity of the media. Video mail mode captures smaller file sizes suitable for email.

With its powerful Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) rechargeable batteries, the DSC-H5 can capture up to 400 images per charge - enough for a week of shooting. The compact BC-CS2 Battery Charger is also supplied for battery recharging on the go.

Shoot without a memory card using the built-in 32MB internal memory, and there is also a slot for optional Memory Stick, and Memory Stick PRO media. You can then copy the full 32MB of internal memory to an optional Memory Stick to share or transfer files.
