I stumbled across this uploader the other day, and played with it a bit. It seems pretty cool so far.

It is not SmugMug specific, but seems to work fine for basic uploading. It is still pretty early in the project life, so they will probably add more options along the way.
FYI, hitting the "all photos" tab at the bottom gives you the option to choose the gallery to send it to. By default, it sends to the most recent gallery (as it is also built for sites like Flickr that you just upload to a general photostream).
