New to IR iamges

Recently, I purchased a Sony A100, and paired with the 18-70mm kit lens and a Hoya R72 IR filter, I took some IR images.

This one is pretty neat. I like the composition and colors. What are your impressions of the A100 so far?

I just checked out the rest of your site. The Northern lights shots are really cool and I like your navigation, it's very simple, easy to use, and unintrusive.

I looked at your sight and picked the one I liked best and noticed that Nick had posted he like one in particular......... we picked the same shot

You IR's are really nice, I will check out the rest of your gallery soon.

Thanks for your comment on my IR images (that abandoned house is actually my favourite subject!)

It took me hours to get that nav bar to work properly since I know nothing about CSS (or coding in general).

I'm getting more and more impressed with the A100 all the time. Example: the in camera 'Super Steady Shot' feature - worth the cost of buying the camera right there IMO.

I like taking photos of aircraft (work at a airport), and trains (used to work for a railway), and the steady shot really works well. The amount of sharp aircraft images have risen well - sharply

I also had several lenses for the Minolta mount already that I purchased 10-15 years ago (500mm F8, 50mm F1.4 for example) which all work on the A100. Another big bonus for me since I don't use film any more and those lenses where not being used, and not worth my time to sell.

The only drawbacks I find with the A100 - is:

Doesn't focus as fast as my 20D (needed for taking photos of fast moving subjects like trains and planes)
With my Sigma 28-300mm (left over from my film days), the camera really hunts around when trying to focus in lower light - annoying.
Starting to get major hotpixels during loooong exposures (star trails) even with noise reduction

First point means less photos of that fast moving subject, or missed photos
Second piont means possibly going to manual focus (I wear glasses so this can be difficult) but does better with my 50mm 1.4
Third point might just be a defective sensore or what ever as my first long exposure was 12 and a half minutes with no hotpixals (no NR iether), but after that first long exposure I'm getting hotpixels during long exposures

Camera is lighter than my 20D - bonus
Larger MP count - bonus as I tend to enlarge photos, and crop

I had the Maxxum 7D (also still have the Maxxum 7 film camera), I liked the dials and easy acces to things, where as the A100 isn't quite as easy/fast to access functions - no biggie, gotta learn the camera is all.

All in all - I do like the A100. It's really groing on me, and replacing my 20D fast for most photo opportunities (except maybe the star trail shots due to hot pixel issues).

With the low cost of the camera, I would suggest it to anyone just getting into DSLR's

Thanks Skippy for your comments on my IR images. As I mentioned - that building is my favourite subject, I've been going back to that building for years but she has started to cave in.

I figured to lete everyone see all the IR shots I have so far, it would be easier to have people go to the site, and then post new images here.

Future photos will be posted here when I just have 1 or 2 new ones.

I love your tiger photo - almost acting like its shy or something. I also like the tall waterfall shot (a favourite subject of mine).

The Blue Angel images are quite execllent (I work at an airport!). I've never seen the Blue Angels, only our (Canadian) Snowbirds.
