#27 - doc's shadow

I have 2 that I'm in between right now. The first one was caught by chance (I'll let you guess what it is). It really screams shadows. If it's the favorite, I shot it at several different dof's, and I'm still decided how soft I want the shadows off to the left.

The second was staged in my lab. I like it, but I don't know if the shadows are strong enough. You can definitely tell I was going for simple in this challenge.

So what about the DOF? Should it be crisp all the way, or should the shadows feather out as you move up and to the right? The shot above is f/5.6, I have it at 10 and 16 as well.

You asked for it (they're not the same because there was a minor rotation necessary, and crop involved. Haven't figured out how to do those exactly the same for 2 images - although they did come from the same tripod position. Anyway...

I think I am coming to grips with my obsession with shooting things from the bottom up because I was looking at the second photo thinking, hmmm what if you shot it right near the screws so that would seem ginormous.

What is the otherones blinds???

I really wanted to shoot it the same way you are thinking (and they're not screws, they're bolts), but that would have required a lens that was not only wide, but macro as well. I think that was my biggest problem with that shot, making the small bolts bigger.

and yes, those are blinds... but on what????

Looks like a carpet meeting a tile floor. It is a very nice shot

Can I guess. Is it the shadow of the blinds on a speaker cabinet?

I have no clue what it is, but snappys guess seems pretty good to me. I like this shot alot by the way. definitely the f16 shot. You could definitely give chair a run for its money with this I think.

Erik, bummer you don't have a macro lens. I think the bolts shot would work well if you could could get closer, get a strong shadow, a nice angle, and a shallow depth of field. Could be pretty cool.

Yeah, I realized that as soon as I setup that little scene on my table. Sadly, there will be no camera gear for a long time in my neighborhood - I took the plunge to grown up world and closed on a house, to be built in the spring. So all I have now is a huge stack of papers with scary numbers :eek1
