Family poses....post yours!

I have two outdoor (weather permitting) family shoots this weekend, one family of four, one of five. Looking for some fresh ideas if you have some! The ground will likely be very wet so I don't want to just rely on traditional poses. Any ideas?

I am having that same problem. In a couple of weeks I'll be shooting pics for a friend of mine who has 2 teenage boys. I'm trying to find out how I should pose them. These boys are 15 & 17 (5'10 & 6'0)...so you see I have a problem too. headscratch.gif

I am going to be doing one of these shoots soon too. It will be my first so was hoping for some inspiration, but it looks like we are all in the same boat.

If you can do it outside, how about sitting on rocks/logs?

Get up on a ladder or balcony and take a shot mainly of faces pointing down - GREAT for bigger groups.

My recent family shots have all had sitting in them so if the ground is wet, that won't help. Can you bring blankets that are similar in color to the ground and try to hid them under the people? Or put a tarp under a nice, simple blanket and have them sit on that?

    Here are my recent ones:

    100065856-S.jpg
sitting close - note that they are sitting in a triangle - this is the strongest pose, IMHO, most of the time.

    100068801-S.jpg
Standing, but doing something fun. Note the triangle again.

    100070132-S.jpg
Sitting to the side - triangle again - right angle, but still a triangle

    100072953-S-1.jpg
Across a field/water/whatever - looking at the camera or doing something fun.

    103531861-S-2.jpg
Sitting on a rock snuggled very close.

    101066199-S-2.jpg
    Another rock pose.

Hope you get some ideas from these! You may or may not like 'em, but maybe that'll help you find something that works for you. Good luck with your shoot!

Some nice stuff! 4 and 5 are your best portrait-wise, I think. I like 6, but of course, it shows back of heads. The first 3 are either blurry or too much soft focus???

(For multiple posting, just add some carriage returns before you insert your first shot. This gives you some room to move your cursor back in the message area and insert another, and another and when you are finished, you can preview and submit! You have to click on the yellow box for each photo)

Follow this link, and scroll down to Option 2, and like "saurora" mentioned, after each picture, add a hard return.

    From a session today.

Some inside with a studio light, and some outside natural light.

ooops, I see you are probably looking for larger family examples.

My focus generally ends up being more candid, which in the end are exactly what the families want more often than not...so I do the obligitory poses, but then makes sure i get a lot of the non scripted ones!

here's a few...(wish me luck going to try multiplesmwink.gif Ok..so I got it to work, but I am unimpressed that I have to make them availble for use on blogs ebay etc etc to have that...guess i will stick to the old fashioned way...since I refuse to get rid of the right protectrolleyes1.gif
