Custom Hostname case significant?

I noticed today that when using a custom hostname case is significant. For example, this works for my site:

http://www.snapsandshots.com/gallery/297395

But this does not:

http://www.SnapsAndShots.com/gallery/297395

With the second version, all the links to the pictures are broken.

Okay, wait a minute, now it's working again. Now it's taking the mixed case version and changing it into all lowercase (which is fine) and everything works. But I swear, not two minutes ago, this was NOT happening. Weirdness. Scary weirdness considering that I give out my site name in mixed case.

mixed case should never be a problem when resolving host names.

to prove this point, I clicked on the link below and still found your gallery fine.

I know it shouldn't be a problem, but I also know that the picture links were broken briefly when I tried it. I have no idea where in the chain the problem occurred. Probably a write-off anomoly, but it's good to mention them because sometimes many mentions adds up to something later.

    Proof
Okay, it's not a one-time anomaly, and this time I have visual proof.

Here's a screen shot of using http://SnapAndShots (mixed case) that shows the broken links:

And here's a screen shot taken at the same time in another instance of IE using http://snapsandshots (all lowercase). No broken links:

    12855771-L.gif

I tried it with mixed case in Firefox and things worked fine. Last time this happened, things started working fine with mixed case in IE after I fiddled for a while.

I'm not sure what's happening here, if it's an IE bug, a Smugmug bug, a bug on my system, or what. I do a lot of web work but I've never run across this problem before.
