Moon Color Change This Weekend

A chance to shoot the moon in copper, this weekend.
The Moon will blush red as it passes through Earth's shadow in a total lunar eclipse on Saturday. From most locations on Earth, at least part of the 6-hour eclipse will be visible if skies are clear.

The Earth's shadow will completely cover the Moon during the most dramatic phase, which will last a little more than an hour – from 2244 to 2357 GMT. (You can find out the conversion between GMT and your local time here. Scroll to the bottom to find out what GMT is currently.)

Somebody posted...I think here.. of a lunar eclipse. They took a sequence of shots at different times and then stacked them to make one final image.

Anybody have any recommendations on how to do that? I'm sure a tripod would be used. What about camera settings?

    Andy,

I think you are not far from me, I will be in lower Westchester this evening, any suggestions on where might be a good spot to go and try this? (You may not be as close to my area as I think but I figured I would ask!) :D

This is not the photo; however, this is what I want to try if it is clear tonight.

This is not mine; however, it can be found here: http://www.mreclipse.com/LEphoto/LEphoto.html

    Here's a handy moonrise caluculator.

In the first box, I entered Georgia, and in the blank box below that I put Atlanta.

    Got this, in military time:

    Total Eclipse of the Moon

    ATLANTA, GEORGIA

    W084 25, N33 46

    Eastern Standard Time

    Moon's

    Moon leaves umbra 2007 Mar 03 20:11.7 95.6 19.1
    Moon leaves penumbra 2007 Mar 03 21:25.4 107.4 33.6

    More references:

    http://tierneylab.blogs.nytimes.com/2007/03/02/red-moon-rising/#more-42

The NASA page gives a pretty good indication of what time to expect the eclipse - about 6 p.m. here.

And it should be darkish, and it is above freezing here today so it could be good.

According to that it would be at 5:59PM in Seattle? Sorry, I'm just confused by what the information means. If it is going on right now then I guess we won't be able to see it over here.

Oh, come on, this simply gives you a reason to go out around sunset and shoot. Whether you get the eclipse or not is totally inessential :-) mwink.gif:Diloveyou.gif

It must not mean 5:59 Pacific? it just hit 6:10 out here, and assuming it isn't too cloudy I may be able to see it. Find out ina few minutes.
