Will be spending 3 months in Davis from April to June... Any tips on nearby photo opportunities? I don't drive, and am on a student budget, so any traveling has to be cheap.

if you're into architechtural, check out the building lovingly referred to as "the Death Star" on the UC Davis campus. If I recall correctly, I think its the PolySci building. Bonkers crazy architecture, and its pretty nicely lit up at night. My hunch suggests likely been done to death, but its got so many angles you can probably still find something fresh there.

I would be interested in seeing the SkyCar in action! They test it in the back of the building which is visible to the street.

The American River is nearby, worth shooting if you can get to it.

Not sure where your visit falls relative to the tomato and rice harvests, but they might be visual, if you can get to where the action is.

If you get up to Sacramento, the bridge into West Sac is kinda cool, as is the railroad museum. Old Sacramento might be too touristy to be worth shooting.

    yup...the death star!!!

hahahaha!!! I'm Davis alum. I knew people who played hide and seek in there on the weekend. Laughing.gif

Anyway...the tower bridge by old sac provides some great photo ops.

The Mondavi Center at UCD is also really great all lit up at night. I haven't had the opt to photo it.

    The capitol at night.

There are plenty of bikes and stuff like that around Davis....a strole through downtown might be worth it.

The UCD Arboretum has lots of plants down by Putah Creek.

    OOO.

I almost forgot...at the end of April, UC Davis picnic goes down. It's the huge open house. You can photograph all sorts of stuff...from the parade...to animal competitions...frisbee dogs is my favorite. There is sheep herding and datsun races...etc.

It is one big party outside. Here are some pics I took from last year.

Take some shots at the many athletic events and donate printing rights to the auction:
