Will Google Adwords work in this environment?

I've searched some threads and got tired of reading all the complaints in and around this subject (NOT that I don't agree with them, I was just looking for something else.)

It isn't clear to me if google's pay-per-click advertising (ADWORDS) will work or not. Does it also get swampped out by Smugmug's Meta data description or can you manually "replace" it when you create your ad?

Any movement here? I read all of Smugmug's responses which I think are all B.S. If you pay for a hosting service you have every right to expect to be able to advertise effectively on the Internet.

Maybe I don't understand? Teach me.

Tell you what, I'll ask Sheaf who does all our advertisting here at SmugMug to give you his thoughts.

You can certain buy adwords and for at least these two, they are working...

I'm a little confused. You want to advertise on http://www.google.com/ to drive traffic to your site? Or do you want to place advertisements on your own Smugmug site to create revenue? The first is Adwords and the second is Adsense.

For Adwords, you create your own ad. You choose the title, the two lines of text, the landing page, and the display URL. The organic search is a different monster, but Adwords would be completely under your control as to what is displayed.

Adsense is quite easy to add to your site. You just need to copy and paste some html that Google gives you.

Thanks Sheaf. Adwords is what I wanted to try. It sounds like you are saying that the two lines of text and URL will be what I enter and not overridden by smugmugs meta data. If so then I think we are done. THank you.
