Looks like somewhere near Foothill Road off Onion Valley in the afternoon and Horseshoe Meadows Road and Lubken Canyon Road-Lonepine Peak in the morning.

Here is a crop of your last image just to illustrate one point. "Fill the frame and corners" I enjoyed the little bit of the road showing in the very bottom of your composition but felt it was not obvious enough. In this crop the dramatic size diff between the road and the mountain become more apparent.
No, fishing wasn't good at all. We were supposed to go backpack in from Portal but with the weather the way it was we just messed around for the day and left. Water was a little chilly.
