And Finally, some B&W. Reflections and B&W seem to go together well.

No problem with this entry! thumb.gif

Walking around Rockcut State park today and took these. What do you think? Do they work.

    155049518-M.jpg

Took this one with the rock to give it a different effect

    155049735-M.jpg

Both have been rotated 180 deg from the original shot.

    Dave,
Very nice entries, thank you very much! thumb.gif

I would like to use this opportunity to draw everybody's attention to the fact that while reflection is a definite bonus, it is not the primary target, so if you don't get one - shoot anyway! mwink.gif

Cound you try just cropping to the bottom left 1/4 of this shot. I really like that corner, but the sky going to black doesnt do it for me.

    It Finally Stopped Raining..
It's been pouring in New England for a week but it stopped yesterday and I can finally get a few morning shots. This is a local pond that turns spectacular in the fall. Not sure I like my color corrections yet but these were quick.

Some long shots of the pond...

Caught these, as usual, just as I was leaving.

Hi Nik, In view of what you said, here are some comparisons of shots with and without a CP

    155187713-M.jpg

    155187505-M.jpg

    155184955-M.jpg

    155184644-M.jpg

While not picturesque, they show the difference of the filter.

On the way back. I shot these two, since they are ineligable, I will keep them small so as to cause only a small amount of offence rolleyes1.gif. I'll remove them if they do offend

I can't decide my favorite, but will go with the most reflective, and list the second as an honorable mention- I am aware that my highlights are pushed on the log and rock, if I had it to do over again, I'd polarized more heavily, or cut exposure time. Sometimes, we get one try, well on that day anyway. :) These were both shot since Sunday, how's that for recent?

I don't know how still the water has to be, in order to qualify, but the English North Sea doesn't get much stiller than this

While this is a very nice shot, to me it's more about reflection than still water (still counts:-)

Thank for doing this comparison. Too bad the water was murky and didn't quite show the difference as it would with a clear one.

Another thing is that you may want to control the angle. Amount of refraction/reflection changes drastically depending on it.

They are nice CP samples, but I agree, they do not belong here. However, let them be, it's a nice little side-track..:-)

I think from this distance we can consider it still, although I never ever saw or heard of a totally still sea/ocean, even at The Gyre:-).
Shot seems is a bit soft, though... headscratch.gif

In the still of the night
It was windy today so busted out a square plate and had a little fun at the kitchen table.

    Nice shots.
But unless you've told us so, I'd have a hard time figuring out this is water.
Once again: please make sure it's showing water, reflection comes second.

George, your watermark is way to distracting for a challenge or competition.

That's my take on it, not as a mod, just as a viewer. I keep a directory for challenges and stuff, and remove any obtrusive watermarks, just an idea-

even lower right corner is better than slapped across the middle!

    Doug,
Thanks for the input. I will change this for the future.
