Very nice entries, thank you! thumb.gif
They all can be improved in post, but they are all solid shots!
I like the ripples on the last one, great catch!

    Dale,
I was sitting on my boat listening to the rain and shot this through the port hole.
    Interesting take!
Yes, it's water, and it's still, and it definitely fills the frame!
Glad you could join the Class! thumb.gif

    Meditation

This is the "mote" - if you call it that - running around the outside of the Emperior's Palace. It won't offer much protection, but it will help set the stage for the tranquil setting inside the walls.

This is the private view from the back of the Emperor's personal quarters overlooking a beautiful garden.

Sorry for submitting so many - but I like these! They are all from a trip to Kyoto

It may be hard to see the "still water" in this pcture, but the water is in front of the large background rock.

The Golden Palace in Kyoto. Not my favorite as the sky was grey and mid-day light. It would probably look better in Black and White, but you can't have a B&W "Golden" palace!

Finally, I have to show a couple from my back yard here in Tampa, FL. This is a sunset as viewed from Bon Appetit restaurant in Dunedin, FL

Probably more on topic than the others. Can you tell where the water line is? This is on the Hillsborough river. This is a reflection shot with the water line near the middle, but it is hard to tell!

I really like this! Looks like the "still" water is about to get some excitement!
I took this while exploring options for the LPS semi and thought it went so perfectly here! Emily iloveyou.gif154600043-L.jpg

Uh Oh - I guess I'm in trouble too! I'm skimming and not reading enough! Well, what is the definition of "fresh"? (where is Clinton when you need him ;-)

Whoops. I need to learn to read the rules before posting. My apologies-- this isn't a fresh shot and now that I've read the rules, I get what this is about and why.

The location is Waldo Lake, Oregon.

I'll get out and work on a fresh shot and see what I can come up with. That's kind of what this technique assignment seciton is all about, eh? :D

    Fresh Rule exposed

Fresh rule is simple: you can't provide a picture that you took before you knew about the particular assignment, even if the assignment was started last Xmas, you took the shot April 1st but became aware of the assignment only yesterday.
The reason for it is to make you go out and shoot, and be actively aware of the assignment while you're shooting. Otherwise we'll be buried under the tons of the archive shots each of us has many.

    Still Water
    Playing Catch Up

I took these a few days ago at Snoqualmie Pass, Wa. I had to hang out most of the morning for the wind to die down, but it was a great place to hang out.

The pictures are so similar that I think you have cut the flowers themselves in the scene. :D

It looks like the very same place/position.
    How's that ? ne_nau.gif

    Great entries, especially #2. thumb.gif
Did you use CP (circular polarizer)? If not, this is exactly the kind of shot where it can justify its cost :-)deal.gif

    Nikolai

I actually had a CP (Circular Polarizer) in my bag (albeit a cheap version of one), but alas I forgot to use it. Slipped my mind until you just mentioned it, lol! Thats why I am still a newbie. And another example of the great tips I am picking up here at Dgrin. But I won't forget to pull it out next time.

I wish I had a great location for a still water shot, but these days my back yard will have to do!
