a photographic essay of events in the so called life of amadeus.

my day started by wheeling out last weeks purchase for a little sun. my first "vintage" acquisition from the days when men were men and motorcycles were started by kicking them. with a kickstarter.

enough brute strength to get seriously hurt on and I'm looking forward to it.

I had an appointment to see Mr. Hunter later in the day and before I knew it I was on the road. I did stop at J&R Cigars in Paramus and the Ikea, also in Paramus, but took no pictures. Use your imagination its not that hard. :D

However once on the NJTP (new jersey turn pike) I did take a few pictures in the Vince Lombardi Service Area where I stopped to pee.

It seems I'm not the only one with the "vintage" bug.

The sharp eye will quickly ID the Rickman chassis sporting a Zundapp power plant. Recently purchased in Maine bound for Wisconsin via Germany all the way from Memphis.

But the real jewel was this BSA. I chatted with the new owner and told him that I had a friend with a lot of old Harleys and Indians and he claimed he planned on buying every BSA he can get his hands on. I can't fault him as I'm partial to BSA's myself and given todays market they seem to be appreciating nicely. Finally. So more power to him. I hope he has a strong leg. :cry

I continued on my journey and soon found myself, thanks to Mapquest, in Hoboken, and was treated to some nice views of Manhattan, which I had never actually seen before from thiis vantage so first time for everything.

I think there are some great shots to be had with this old coke sign with the right light and the right lens. I had neither. :cry

I met up with Bill and we took the Holland Tunnel into the Big Apple for our appointment with Mr. Hunter. He was on time and we conducted our business as planned.

Ian Hunter is 68 years old. Mick Jaggger couldn't shine this mans shoes. (sorry Chuck but I know you can appreciate the passion).

Well the times gettin' hard for you little girl
I'm a hummin' and a strummin' all over God's world
you don't remember when you got your last meal
and you forgot just how a woman feels
you didn't know what rock n' roll was
until you met a drummer on a Greyhound bus
I got there in the nick of time
before he got his hands across your state line

well in the middle of the night
    on the open road
and the heater don't work and it's oh-so cold
you're gettin' tired, you're lookin' kinda beat
the music of the street, drive you off your feet
you didn't know how rock n' roll looked
until you caught your sister with a guy from the group
half-way home in the parking lot
by the look in her eyes she was givin' what she got

    Once bitten twice shy, babe

Woman you're a mess gonna die in your sleep
all the blood on my AMP and my Les Paul'S BEAT
I can't leave you home cos you're runnin' around
my best friend told me you're the best CHICK in town

You didn't know that rock n' roll burned
so you bought a candle and you loved and you learned
you got the rhythm, you got the speed
mamma's little baby likes it short and sweet

    Once bitten twice shy, babe

I didn't know ya got a rock n' roll record
until a saw your picture on another guy's jacket
you told me I was the only one
and look at you now, well it's dark as it's dumb

    Once bitten twice shy, babe

When I was just sixteen - I stood waiting for a dream -
at Barker Street bus station every night
When I tried to get it on - she just looked at me with scorn - my courage
turned to dust and I took flight

For those looks they seemed to say
You ain't nuthin' - Go away
You're just a face in the crowd so I went home and I vowed
I'm gonna be somebody - someday

Her name was Irene Wilde - Oh such beauty for a child
When she started dating boys - I nearly died
For I could not barely stand to see someone hold her hand
I felt I had to crawl away and hide
In my mother's living room I composed so many tunes
All the same - just a frame - for her name, and just to say
    Gonna be somebody - someday

Wild as your name I soon left that country town
I been around, seen some fame, seen some ups and seen some downs
Smile through your shock when you hear your name aloud
It's that face in the crowd - didn't dig it - much too proud...

When I was just sixteen I stood waiting for a dream
A Barker Street bus station non affair
At the time it seemed so sad, but it did not turn out bad
If you hadn't messed me up I'd still be there
And I think most folks agree, a little put-down makes them see
They ain't no chain - just a link and that's why you made me think
Gonna be somebody - be somebody - be somebody - someday

On the very first decade that we got to dream in
Our fathers were angry, our mother's were screamin'
At the clothes we were wearin' and the music we got off on
Hitler was dead, welcome to Babylon

Carved our initials out across the sand
The heart and the arrow, no-one understands
Then the tide rolled in and everything ran
And washed us away, washed us away, washed us away

Up in the attic ambition was burning
Now my fingers were bleedin' but the tables were turning
Down in the city the future was beckoning
And I hated myself on the day of reckoning
    (Oh yeah)
Carved our initials on top of the cake
The heart and the arrow - the rattle and the snake
How was I to know that the Earth was gonna break
And wash us away, wash us away, wash us away

    Everything's temporary in this world
Ain't it a shame when you lose someone
    Here tomorrow, gone today
Wash us away, wash us away, wash us away

There was never a fool like a young fool alone in
A world without someone he can find a home in
And for all the wrong reasons we rescued each other
You bandaged my heart I never would recover
    (ohhhh)
No river runs true, it always takes a twist
Hearts can be broken, arrows gonna miss
How was I to know that it was gonna come down to this
    And wash us away

And we wrote our names on the Dead Sea Scrolls
The young and the restless, the brave and the bold
How was we to know it was gonna get outta control
And wash us away, wash us away, wash us away, wash us away, wash us away, wash us away, wash us away

Well Billy rapped all night about his suicide
How he kick it in the head when he was twenty-five
Speed jive don't want to stay alive
    When you're twenty-five
And Wendy's stealing clothes from Marks and Sparks
And Freddy's got spots from ripping off the stars from his face
    Funky little boat race
Television man is crazy saying we're juvenile deliquent wrecks
Oh man I need TV when I got T Rex
    Oh brother you guessed
    I'm a dude dad
All the young dudes (Hey dudes)
Carry the news (Where are ya)
Boogaloo dudes (Stand up Come on)
    Carry the news
All the young dudes (I want to hear you)
Carry the news (I want to see you)
Boogaloo dudes (And I want to talk to you all of you)
    Carry the news

Now Lucy looks sweet cause he dresses like a queen
But he can kick like a mule it's a real mean team
But we can love oh yes we can love
And my brother's back at home with his Beatles and his Stones
We never got it off on that revolution stuff
What a drag too many snags
Now I've drunk a lot of wine and I'm feeling fine
Got to race some cat to bed
Oh is there concrete all around
Or is it in my head
    Yeah
    I'm a dude dad
All the young dudes (Hey dudes)
Carry the news (Where are ya)
    Boogaloo dudes (Stand up)
    Carry the news
All the young dudes (I want to hear ya)
Carry the news (I want to see you)
Boogaloo dudes (And I want to relate to you)
    Carry the news
All the young dudes (What dudes)

Carry the news (Let's hear the news come on)
Boogaloo dudes (I want to kick you)
    Carry the news
All the young dudes (Hey you there with the glasses)

Boogaloo dudes (I want you at the front)
Carry the news (Now you all his friends)
All the young dudes (Now you bring him down cause I want him)
    Carry the news
Boogaloo dudes (I want him right here bring him come on)
Carry the news (Bring him here you go)
All the young dudes (I've wanted to do this for years)
Carry the news (There you go)

Forgot my six-string razor - hit the sky
Half way to Memphis 'fore I realised
Well I rang the information - my axe was cold
They said she rides the train to Oreoles

Now its a mighty long way down the dusty trail
And the sun burns hot on the cold steel rails
    'N I look like a bum 'n I crawl like a snail
    All the way from Memphis

Well I got to Oreoles y'know - it took a month
And there was my guitar, electric junk.
Some spade said "Rock'n'rollers, you're all the same.
Man that's your instrument." I felt so ashamed.

Now its a mighty long way down rock'n'roll
Through the Bradford Cities and the Oreoles
'N you look like a star but you're still on the dole
    All the way from Memphis

Yeah it's a mighty long way down rock'n'roll
From the Liverpool docks to the Hollywood Bowl
'N you climb up the mountains 'n you fall down the holes
    All the way from Memphis

Yeah its a mighty long way down rock'n'roll
As your name gets hot so your heart grows cold
'N you gotta stay young man, you can never be old
    All the way from Memphis

Yeah its a mighty long way down rock'n'roll
Through the Bradford Cities and the Oreoles
'N you look like a star but you're really out on parole!
    All the way from Memphis

    Mott the Hoople!

Nice pics Flug - like them.....

    Z

PS: I have an old motorcycle shop down here in Tampa with a dozen BSA's like than in various states of repair.
It is the purpose of life that each of us strives to become actually what he is potentially. We should be obsessed with stretching towards that goal through the world we inhabit.
