The one problems with places like resellerratings.com is that most of the people who post at those places are people who were unhappy. So it skews the rating towards bad, since 90% of the people who were happy will never post at these rating places.

    Just a thought.

    I completely agree with you.

I tend not to post reviews until something happens that makes me mad. I have so many products that I absolutely LOVE and haven't posted a dang thing about them, but when something goes wrong, I go post it, as a warning I guess to those about to buy it even though it could be an isolated problem...it's bad system, I know, but when something happens, I need to vent to a review site :)

This is why I tend to take rating sites with a grain of salt. It is still a good idea to research the site before you buy, but don't dismaiss a site based soley on a review site. Like I said, I have purchased from J&R before and never had a problem. Hopefully if someone decides to purchase their they will have the same experiences, and not that of the people posting on resellerratings.com

I've also purchased from J&R and they are legit IMHO.

Besides, the price is reasonable (B&H, etc. have not caught up yet, I think, since they and others appear to be asking $259+) BECAUSE SandDisk's own website lists the 8GB Extreme III CF at $199 ( http://www.sandisk.com/Products/Item(1856)-SDCFX3-8192-SanDisk_Extreme_III_CompactFlash_8GB.aspx ) and usually Adorama, B&H, etc. are cheaper than list on camera memory.

J&R is a legit as it gets. If you are ever in NYC, make a stop in there and behold the wonder that is J&R. Seriouslly, they are as good as B&H when it comes to electronics. They are every bit as much of a NYC institution.

I did actually by my first point and shoot from there - no glitches at all....I see the concern that one might have from those ratings, but they are skewed for sure. JR is a good business.

Agree, bought lots of gear over the years from J&R, and been in their store before as well. Buy with confidence from them...they also tend to have really good deals on occasion...just ableshoppers or techbargains from time to time.

My local pro supplier is consistently 15% more than b&h prices, but they have the 8GB Sandisk's for $119. Super reliable seller, high touch.

Lets put our thinking caps on guys...if customers mostly only write a report when they experience poor service (which incidentally i believe is correct) then that seller will have a lot more bad reports than a seller whom has good service.

    Deal: 4GB SD Card $25
Woot.com has a 4GB SD card for $25+$5 shipping. This deal will be good for today, March 24 only, and until they run out.

If you are not familiar with woot, they are a good outfit. They offer only one product a day, at a usually great discount. There is flat, $5 shipping, and no returns. Buy it, and it is yours.

I have bought several items from them and been happy with them.

I continue to be amazed at how low memory cards continue to drop in price.

Today at Costco I picked up four more Sandisk CF Ultra II 2GB for $34.99 each. B+H has them for $44.95. How low will they go?

Alex and gluwater, thanks for sharing.

FYI, the BuyDig 2GB for $32 is the Extreme III, no IV. The IV is $49AR

According to the SanDisk website, the write speeds are
    Minimum 9MB/s for Ultra II
    Minimum 20MB/s for Extreme III
Up to 40MB/s for Extreme IV

But if that makes I difference in real life I don't know either. Would imagine that it also depends on the camera and if it's able to make use of the extra speed. I'm still using Ultra II cards in my Canon 20D, but looking at those prices, I see an Extreme III card in my future...

Just found a nice website with speed tests for different cameras, here the link for a Canon 20D, but you can choose other cameras in the upper right corner of the page

Have a look at this site:
    http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=6007

    Bendr, for your XT:
    http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=6007-7699

It doesn't look like you could go wrong w/ a 2-GB Extreme III.

For most of the cameras, you're going to find that the Extreme III and IV are both w/in the top 10%. Is the extra cost worth it? Probably not for in-camera performance. On the download end though, it may well be worth it if you have a firewire card reader.

[Edit: looks like Alex beat me to it :-) ]
