Thinking the 20Da is going to be a waste, at least for me

Look beyond the obvious grasshopper! Obviously a mainly IR/astrophotog body is out of the realm for most daily use, but think about the technology Canon is releasing to the public for the first time! A focusable LCD on a DSLR! I think this is just a hint of revolutionary things to come from Canon. As a matter of fact, my good friend and die hard Nikon shooter decided to make the switch last night when he read all these new pre-releases. If you read in depth, it looks like a lot of the new sigma glass will be Canon only as well. They too seem to be making a big push. I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot more Sigma glass among us soon.

And who doesn't want a real standard (45mm effective) f/1.4 lens!?!?

are we reading the same page? headscratch.gif

This lens also features Sigma's HSM (HyperSonic Motor) and will be available with Canon, Sigma and Nikon lens mounts.

    Oh, and btw, it's a 30/1.4 not 35/1.4.

I was a die hard Nikonian and made the big switch back in November 2002 and I have not looked back yet. I hope Nikon will deliver with the D2x and keep Canon on its toes.

Sorry mr. stickler, I was reading fast and was excited. I realize the error of this as Canon already makes a 34/1.4. Please forgive me.

And about the mount thing, my Nikon friend (who was so excited that he's going to switch) started rambling something to me last night about mounts blah blah blah not for f-mount. I kinda had to tune out as I didn't have time to chat with him... V-day = hanging out with Mrs.it w/o computer! rolleyes1.gif

I think the cut filter is similar to what you got from maxmax for your 828. Fits description 100%.

I heard Canon may not even release this camera in the US. Has anyone heard more on this?

I think they mean that if you want to use it normally, you'll need to screw
a filter onto the lens that was the equiv of what they took out.

What I am curious to know is why they are releasing this in Japan only?

The 20Da won't stay in Japan only, even if it is only for sale in Japan. Entrepreneurs will buy them and resell them in the rest of the, world would be my guess.

I think this is a VERY interesting development from Canon - I suspect it means someone at Canon has had their ear to the ground and has taken note of the conversion of the 300Ds to IR. And has recognized that there are markets beside the typical photography fans - eg: astronomy and other scientific uses of the 20Da also.

I am not sure they will upgrade the 20D at this point, but they could. Photokina is this fall where a lot of big announcements happen too, perhaps they will hold it until then. I think I will be on board with a Rebel XT for hiking, biking and backing up with. thumb.gif

Which, I think, gives the lie to thinking about camera quality purely in terms of megapixels. I reckon my old 1D, at 4mp, is still a better camera in many ways.

Why do they keep making their bodies look uglier and uglier with the battery grips? The 10D looked great, nice and integrated. Since then, it looks like a big barnacle. Blech :puke1
