Now you've done it. We're getting way too close to cooler weather here for my liking. Last fall we spent a fantastic 4 weeks in Perth and Western Australia. Having fall turn to spring in 32 hours is addicting. Dear, can we....
No thanks. I've had one. Focus not that slow, but too slow for surf, IMO.
I believe you sold that lens to "k2c1959", and I just bought that lens (Sigma 50-500mm "BigMa") , from "k2c1959". My first lens with the "It" factor, Dr. It that is!
Compared to the Canon 70-200mm, f2.8L it is a bit slower, and it also has a little more hunt before settling, so I can see why you say that. Still, I see remarkable images from the BigMa, including surf:

Well glad to hear that lens is making the rounds! It was a great lens, don't get me wrong, just didn't suit my needs at the time, and I was already slimming down my kit for the impending big move.
I have also seen great surf images from it, in great light, I'm sure than lens can shine. Truth is, at the spots Gus took me too, you don't need 500mm for some great shots. Sure it'd be fun to get a portrait of a surfer in a tube, but for me, its the action of the water, the shape of the tube, how small the surfer looks on the wave. I dig the water.
*Oh, BTW, same person who sold me the Bigma just sold me a 70-200/4. it'll be on its way to Oz soon. the cycle continues!

Yeah, indeed. It was for sure a 1D series body (I can tell by the huge dial wheels on the back of Canon, it wasn't a Nikon, definitely). 70-200 would make sense, but don't know if the housing was long enough. I'd almost guess a fixed 135mm.
edit: nevermind, i'm an idiot and didn't look close enough at gus' photo. white lens, 70-220, gotta be.

The DGrin chain on that Bigma is longer than you know - I bought that from Scott Quier in March '06! So Scott to me to Doc to K2c to the Big Z - not bad!

Don't know if I have my jpg settings different than you, or if you're still doing LAB curves on every single shot, but yours are a bit more vibrant.
