North Carolina coast
just got back from a short weekend trip to north carolina, so thought i would give travelogue writing a shot 
we were in the area of wilmington and southport, nc. first we visited wilmington and walked along the "riverwalk", which is a boardwalk next to the cape fear river. the ship is a battleship; i think they give tours, but we haven't gotten around to that.
i was really enjoying the light at sunset!
the river had other boats in it, of course...
looking out towards the ocean...
the next day, we took a sailing excursion down the intracoastal waterway and out near oak island. (the rest of the pics in this entry were taken with my point & shoot)
at the marina:

there were a bunch of pelicans flying around the area once we reached the town of southport
there were some cool-looking boats docked there
love the pelicans!!
what, this? oh, it's just my summer home. in my dreams.
we thought this was an oil rig, but do they even have oil in the area? not sure what it is, but it was interesting to look at.

and again, a bit closer up
it was a beautiful day... this shot was taken just before the sails went up
sailboats are mysterious to me, there were lots of ropes and contraptions
the following day we played a little golf at one of the courses in st. james plantation. this is the cart path:
good thing my point & shoot has a barely audible shutter, or he would've been really pissed at me for taking this in the middle of his backswing
not sure what kind of bird this is, but this was as close as i could get. (i was obviously not paying any attention to my game at this point...)
such a beautiful day!
we then proceeded to spend basically the rest of the vacation at the beach on oak island.
i didn't wan't to leave!
now we are back home and just counting down the days till our next vacation :rolleyes

Having grown up on the East Coast, I know the water is nice and warm this time of year.
That platform thingy looks like some sort of stationary navigational/weather aid. I would guess it's contains a radio transmitter.
The bird you caught looks like an Egret.
