Minneapolis 35W bridge removal

I had some work done on my knee Monday so for a little rehab, I figured I'd go over to the bridge, walk around, and get a few shots.

They pound holes into the deck to hook the rigging to.
Then chisel a line through the deck.

After they remove the machine (jackhammer) the guy with the torch moves in and cuts the rebar.

Then they remove the piece.

There's still a lot to be done.

I lived on either side of that bridge for 6 years, during and after going to the U. Each and every photo I see of the wreckage hits me just a little harder than the one before, especially as this much time has passed.

Thanks much for sharing those pics - being 1000 miles away, I haven't been there to see it yet.

Nice to see these. I don't see the networks doing much followup. But I don't watch much TV so maybe thats why I'm missing it if its there. Looks like they are progressing fast.

    Thanks guys.

The local channels are doing some follow up, but not to much.
Mostly just talking about how fast they want the bridge to be rebuilt.

Very informative...it's cool to see how they do this. I love the 2nd to last photo you posted, looking directly upriver over the whole scene.

Interesting pics. Very good detail in them. I was wondering what had happened to that bridge.

Political games is what happened to it, but no one else is saying it. But I will.

A few years ago,(as far back as 93) the bridge was inspected and they found that it needed repair, or they could just keep inspecting it.

Our local government decided that looking at the bridge was good enough.
    Opps.

The finger pointing will start at some point, in my mind, all they have to do is look in the mirror.
